Through this second week of internship, all the sections under Mr. Librando were treated to a movie with the title The Silent Army. Students visited the Speech Laboratory where the movie was being shown. The movie was about the rebels in Africa led by Obeke, kidnapping children to join their rebellion against the government, wanting reform their own way. One of the victims of Obeke was Abu, an African kid who had a normal life; he has this friend, Thomas, who was white. Abu and Thomas were close friends, but when Abu was abducted, Thomas missed his friend, he was very desperate to rescue his friend yet still cannot do anything because he is just a kid. Thomas’ father, Eduard, was then forced to search for his son’s best friend because he felt that the loss of his son was also his loss. The story then continued showing how violence is eminent and inevitable; on how it disturbs the society. It also spoke of what seemed to be reality in its raw form because some scenes were scenes of what it is to be in the camp of the rebel.

In spite of the violence shown, Mr. Librando was truly in control of the class. He gave a glimpse to the students on what to expect and guided them to reflect and take things as maturely as possible. The teacher also gave out important guide questions for them to properly process the movie. If I were to answer the questions too, the scenes that struck me most were first, from the scene that Abu flaunted his Game Station console which was craved by his father. Since Abu was not that financially capable, his father made a way for his son to be at least be satisfied of his life. It proved that the love of a family member will always be on a different level as to with friends, relatives or to a lover. It shows that even in our simple efforts, love will be tangible and felt. The second scene was when Obeke forced the child army to call him ‘daddy’. As I said, love will always be given to the people who deserve it, it is not asked or demanded; it flows naturally. The children in the film were pretty much traumatized by what happened and were calling Obeke their ‘daddy’ even though he was a father of sin. Lastly, the scene which will never be forgotten is the part where Ama, the slave of Obeke, drank the poisoned tea of Eduard. True sacrifice is not limited to financial assistance or even physical contact, true sacrifice is giving in to what the situation requires meaning that you give what is necessary and in that scene, in order to truly save the whole rebel group, Ama drank the cup which at the end of the film was all worth it.

This week, the students are already in their comfort zone, their true behavior is now revealed. Noise level is an issue to be address, if college students are noisy, how much more will high school students be any different from them? And it is such honor for us student interns under Mr. Librando because these four sections have different characteristics and behavior as individuals and as a class. III Bobola during our first week seemed to be a very noisy class which made me infer that it was the general section which was proven wrong through this week. It made me feel that I am really that old already because of the idea that as early as now, I already have a different view on things observed. There are these students who are dating at the back; pinching and talking while in class even though they’re like third year students. All of these were not seen during my high school life yet now, it is an observation which needs to be addressed.
