Rude and inconsistent are only two of many words to describe the guards of XU. Probably, this would sound really familiar to you but again, my wrath and being ridiculed by these guards, especially with Ricky Sambo, have made me write this.
In my 4 years of schooling in XU, I have NEVER been warned, nor asked by the previous guards with my school pants, perhaps; my pants have aged with me in this institution. What makes me rant is that as I end my stay here, here comes Mr. Guard telling me that I have been wearing the wrong type of pants. To my defense, I stood up for myself that I have gained entry inside the university for 4 years and this time around, you hold me up to say that I have been wearing the wrong pants ever since? Mr. Guard insists that I should change them but as I see it, there are OTHER students who very much are wearing the same pants (in terms of color and texture) inside the university, others are NOT even wearing the prescribed uniform during regular class days.
It pisses me of that I have incurred my second offense regarding this matter where the first one was still with the same guard, who is doing his “job”. Instead of having to reprimand me with my pants, these guards, especially YOU Mr. Guard, should do their (your) duty in protecting the studentry, NOT make a big issue regarding the pants student’s wear (as observed in some classes, some students are even able to sneak in pocket knives inside the campus where basically, that is more threatening than just having the wrong pants inside). I know that there are rules written in the handbook but still, these guards even do NOT KNOW what is stated inside the handbook. They too should memorize and learn what is inside it. Some students even gain entry inside by wearing civilian clothes without having them to report to the DSA. This system basically SUCKS and I hope people would step up to the plate and SPEAK OUT. I am standing for the injustice inflicted to me. Students should be vigilant and primarily do whatever it takes to be heard. It annoys and sets my day on the bad side when these guards even talk to students, and also experienced in my case, in a rude and disrespectful way. Even though students are disrespectful to them, common courtesy should still be seen for they are more “adult like” (if they are). Common comments like “hawud kaayo na siya nga guard” are very much a reflection of what system we are in; that these guards should undergo another training, perhaps be enrolled to a Philosophy or RS class. These guards should not be acting this way; they are guarding students who have very liberated minds working.
I am very much furious with their treatment to students. It is very much NOT Atenean. Being Atenean should not always be reflected upon the students but also to its personnel’s, especially to the people who greets us every day upon entry. It is such a huge shame on us to present these people who do not even know how to greet “good morning” in other words, may pa ang gwardya sa BDO kay managad pa mu ingon ug “Maayong buntag”.
